Installation Prerequisites

Before you can provision a DynaCenter instance (referred to as a Management Workstation or MWS) from the AWS Marketplace into your VPC environment, ensure that the following prerequisites have been met.

Environment Setup

Ensure that at least the Required items listed below have already been set up in your Amazon environment:

  • Required: A VPC environment
  • Required: One or more subnets within the VPC environment where the new server will reside; these subnets can be public or private
  • Required: An internet gateway (IGW) that is attached to the VPC where migrated servers will reside. The internet gateway provides access to the Amazon endpoints and to the other AWS infrastructure required to facilitate the deploy process.

Note: The internet gateway does not, by itself, allow inbound or outbound network access to resources inside the VPC —access is controlled through the use of route tables and security groups.

  • Required: Network access to the infrastructure required for the deploy process.
  • Recommended: A network address translation (NAT) instance with its own Elastic IP address. When a NAT is available, DynaCenter can perform multiple, simultaneous migrations. When no NAT is available, DynaCenter must temporarily consume one Elastic IP for each migration operation; as only a limited number of Elastic IPs are available, environments without a NAT cannot support multiple, simultaneous migration operations.

Create an AWS IAM Role for the DynaCenter Instance

When you provision a DynaCenter instance through the AWS Marketplace, you must assign an IAM Role to the instance that, at a minimum, has the aws-marketplace:MeterUsage permission. The aws-marketplace:MeterUsage permission allows DynaCenter to provide metering information to Amazon for billing purposes.

Note: You can include other permissions in the IAM Role if that is appropriate for your environment, but the role assigned to the DynaCenter instance must minimally include the aws-marketplace:MeterUsage permission.

Important: If you want DynaCenter to use the credentials provided by the IAM Role assigned to the DynaCenter instance to access the target cloud account, you must ensure that the role has the appropriate permissions needed to migrate server workloads; these permissions are listed in the Knowledge Base article http://kb.racemi.com/article/AA-00386.

Ensure the User Who Provisions the DynaCenter Instance Has the Required AWS Permissions

The user who provisions the DynaCenter instance through the AWS Marketplace must have certain AWS permissions to successfully complete the provisioning procedure. The Knowledge Base article http://kb.racemi.com/article/AA-00390 lists the Installer permissions that can be attached, through a policy, to the user, the user’s group, or the role the user is assuming.
