Understanding the DynaCenter Sync Operation Modes

DynaCenter supports two sync modes, file monitoring mode and file scanning mode.

File Monitoring Mode

File monitoring mode tracks file system changes as they occur and then synchronizes the changed files when you initiate the sync operation. Because file monitoring mode tracks changes in real-time, the time needed to complete the sync operation can be significantly less than the time needed to complete a file scanning sync.

Supported Operating Systems

DynaCenter supports file monitoring mode for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012 systems.

Use Cases

Use file monitoring mode when both of the following are true:

  • You want to synchronize a Windows Server 2008 or a Windows Server 2012 system
  • The file systems you want to synchronize were included in the original DynaCenter server migration operation

Working with File Monitoring Mode

The Working With File Monitor Sync section describes how to synchronize content using file monitoring mode.

File Scanning Mode

File scanning mode determines which file systems have changed at the time that the sync operation is initiated and then synchronizes the changes.

Supported Operating Systems

DynaCenter supports file scanning mode for all supported operating systems.

Use Cases

Use file scanning mode when either of the following are true:

  • You want to synchronize a Windows Server 2003 system or a Linux-based system
  • The file systems you want to synchronize were not included in the original DynaCenter server migration operation. For example, you excluded a file system from the original migration operation, but you now want to synchronize the data in that file system.

Working with File Scanning Mode

The Working With File Scanning Sync section describes how to synchronize content using file scanning mode.
